The city of Prague welcomed the 26th International Council of Museums (ICOM) General Conference in the week of Aug. 20 to 28. Under the theme of "The Power Origins from Taiwan," the Taiwan Pavilion showcased the digital achievements of Taiwan museums at ICOM 2022.

Titled "Taiwan - a Living Museum," the pavilion held its opening ceremony on Aug. 22 and invited Theatre du Petit Miroir (小宛然布袋戲) to perform a puppet show to promote the charm of fusion between Eastern and Western art. The troupe was led by its founder Jean-Luc Penso, a French apprentice of Taiwanese puppet master, Lee Tien-lu (李天祿).

Other programs included a Taiwanese tea culture experience, "NPM's Animated Artifacts: Let's Exercise!," a set of exercises based on artifacts at the National Palace Museum, and the board game "Time Traveling to Protect the Fairies" were provided at the event to share Taiwanese culture with the visitors.

Deputy Minister of Culture Hsiao Tsung-huang (蕭宗煌), who is also the President of the Chinese Association of Museums, stated that the theme of "The Power Origins from Taiwan" is set in response to the conference's theme "The Power of Museum," with an aim to showcase the digital innovation and achievements Taiwan has accomplished.

The ICOM Prague 2022 held keynote speeches, panels, roundtables, and debates, and brought together professionals from different countries and fields to share ideas. Over 50 research papers and research posters from Taiwanese researchers and museum workers were published during the conference.

MOC pointed out that the participating museums fully demonstrate their professions and show how Taiwan could contribute to preserving cultural diversity. MOC will continue to support the Taiwan museum community to participate in international organizations and promote Taiwan's creativity, energy, and humanity.
