Taiwan-Indonesia Dialogue through Visual Arts, Theater, and Music

To appeal to a broader spectrum of audiences, Taiwanese agency Trees, Music & Art launched three workshops aimed at promoting dialogue and discourse among artists from Taiwan and Indonesia.

The workshops explored issues relating to Asia through topics in music, dance, mythology, society, and the environment. Members of the Indonesian theater company Payung Hitam were also invited to meet with Taiwan-based artists and cultural professionals from different fields.

The director and artistic director of Payung Hitam shared the troupe's concept of long-term cultivation of Indonesian society and reflected on enhancing society's cultural participation by breaking the boundaries that divided creators and audience members.

Payung Hitam also staged a performance with Taiwanese musicians to offer a deeper understanding of the theater environment and the magnificence that can stem from fusing new ideas from two different cultures.

Their presentation of different aspects of arts and cultures not only helped audience members better understand their Southeast Asian neighbors, but also highlighted how creative inspiration can be sparked by diversified ways of thinking. This project successfully called attention to the importance of cultural diversity.
