London-based Delfina Foundation selects two Taiwanese artists for 2021 resident artists

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K. and the London-based Delfina Foundation have selected two emerging Taiwanese artists, Wu Chuan-lun (吳權倫) and Zhi-ying (致穎), from dozens of applicants, for a three-month residency, which will take place during Delfina Foundation’s summer and autumn seasons, respectively.

Aaron Cezar, founding director of the Delfina Foundation, indicated that the selection committee, composed of British curators, art critics, and other professionals, was impressed by the capabilities of Taiwanese artists and decided to add an extra, inviting the two Taiwanese artists.

Cezar said that he looks forward to assisting emerging artists from Taiwan to interact with international artists and bringing the unique talents of these two Taiwanese artists to the attention of British and European curators and art critics.

According to the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K., the Delfina Foundation’s artists-in-residence program originally would invite one Taiwanese artist this year. By deciding to award residency to two Taiwanese artists, the foundation has recognized the capabilities of emerging Taiwanese artists.

Wu Chuan-lun, born in 1985 in Tainan, will attend the summer residency. He excels at using mixed media, including computer-generated images, photography, and sketches, for his installations which reflect meaningful socio-historical trends, and the installation works are based on concepts and research that explore the complex interplay between nature and civilization, the ecosystem and politics.

Zhi-ying, who will attend his three-month residency in autumn, has applied various media, such as films, photography, and installations in his works which attempt to explore the interplay between living conditions of human beings and the environment and the way in which art can affect our daily lives.

His works have been displayed at international exhibitions and art galleries, including the Taipei Biennial (台北雙年展), the Shanghai Biennale (上海雙年展), and the Museum of Photography, Berlin. He won the Han Nefkens Foundation - Loop Barcelona Video Art Production Award in 2019.
