National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra Digital Concert Hall to launch in August

Set to open in August, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) Digital Concert Hall's first concert "Echoes in the Valleys (山谷的迴響)," which aims at expanding musical influence through technology, will take place on August 1.

With funding from the Ministry of Culture's budget, NTSO raced against time while the epidemic was raging by involving in various developmental projects for the concert hall, the construction of new equipment, and physical testing. NTSO also accumulated more digital content by completing many indoor music performances and recordings.

"Echoes in the Valleys" concert will be performed by the assistant conductor of the NTSO "Yeh Cheng-Te (叶政德)," the Atayal soprano "Mewas Lin (林惠珍)," and Sangpuy Katatepan Mavaliyw (桑布伊) from the Puyuma tribe who was awarded winner thrice at the Golden Melody Awards.

In the same concert, composers such as Yu Chang-fa (游昌發), Chung Yiu-Kwong (鍾耀光), and Chen Shu-si (陳樹熙) will also perform works based on aboriginal cultures, in order to help audiences appreciate the beauty of Taiwan through the diverse and unique indigenous cultures presented by indigenous voices in the symphony.

NTSO Director Liu Suan-yung (劉玄詠) pointed out that the blueprint for NTSO's digital hall has been brewing for some time while NTSO performed in venues in Taipei.

As COVID-19 ravages the globe, the arts and cultural industries have been especially affected, prompting the establishment of the NTSO Digital Concert Hall, Liu added.

Liu Suan-yung said that in addition to music performances, he also hopes to bring music education to rural areas through digital concert halls, solve the difficulties in art education development through technology, and expand the influence of music.

"Echoes in the Valleys" concert will be broadcast live on the NTSO's YouTube platform on August 1, with tickets available for purchase.
