OVER 100 TAIWANESE COMPANIES TO ATTEND HONG KONG FILMART

More than 100 film, television and publishing companies from Taiwan will attend this year's Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (Filmart) to promote local productions, a cultural official said Wednesday.

In addition to a Taiwan pavilion at the March 18-21 expo, a Taiwan night will be held on March 18 to market works from Taiwan, said Chu Wen-ching, head of the Ministry of Culture's Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development.

Filmart is an annual film market organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to promote partnerships in areas such as film and TV program financing, distribution, production and adaptation.Chu said he hopes the Taiwanese works on show will 'showcase Taiwan's creative energy and cultural values.'

In related news, seven Taiwanese films will be screened between March 17 and April 2 at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, including the romantic drama 'Together,' dramas 'Touch of the Light' and 'Poor Folk,' and the romantic comedy 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.'

Meanwhile, 11 Taiwanese actors, actresses and visual effects artists have been nominated for awards at the annual Asian Film Awards to be presented on March 18 by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society.

In addition, two Taiwanese film projects will be featured during March 18-20 at the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum, which is aimed at connecting Asian filmmakers with film financiers and buyers, Chu said.
