Lee Ying-ping, a top aide in the Ministry of Culture, has been as named as the new director of Taiwan's cultural office in Hong Kong, the Ministry of Culture said on Sunday.
The immediate task of the Hong Kong office is to build a 'big and sturdy' bridge between Taiwan and Hong Kong culture, and Lee, 42, is the 'most suitable' person for the job, according to Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai.
The director of the office, known as the Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Center, should be someone who can connect with Hong Kong's mainstream society and its younger generation, the Minister said.
Lee, who was serving as director of Lung's office, has the attributes of strong administrative skills, creativity and experience in the public and private sectors, Lung said.
Lee's experience includes a stint as a director of the National Culture and Arts Foundation in 1995, which made her one of the youngest cultural administrative officials in Taiwan.
She was also a researcher at the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs during Lung's term as commissioner of the department, and served as CEO of the Lung Ying-tai Cultural Foundation in 2007.
Lee is also experienced in organizing forums and events across the Taiwan Strait, including the 1993 tour of Taiwan's Cloud Gate Dance Theatre in China, one of the first major cultural exchanges between the two sides.
Lee will replace author Chang Man-chuan, 51, who resigned in June as director of the Hong Kong office after eight months in the post.
