Workshop held to match young writers with publishers, media

The Ministry of Culture organized a workshop on March 29 to match eight young literary creators supported by the Ministry's "Youth Creators (青年創作及培力新秀創作補助)" grants program with Taiwanese publishers, digital platform providers, and audiovisual operators.

The workshop is part of the Ministry's efforts to help young Taiwanese literary creators introduce their writings to potential publishers and explore the chance to work with audiovisual operators and other platforms.

The eight young creators featured on March 29 were Chi Leh (七樂), Liao Hung-jeh (廖宏杰), Chou Yen-tung (周彥彤), Yeh Fu-lu (葉覆鹿), Tsai Yu-tsen (蔡雨辰), Chu Shih-hung (朱世宏), Sung Yi-hsun (宋易勳), and Shen Hsin-hung (沈信宏).

Deputy Minister of Culture Ting Hsiao-ching (丁曉菁) pointed out that cultivating new talent is an important policy under Minister Cheng Li-chiun. In 2017, the Ministry rolled out the "Youth Creators" program as the first step in helping young writers and artists embark on a professional career, with 82 projects having received funding between 2017 and 2019, she added.

Two matchmaking workshops were also held last year, culminating in one new publication, seven projects that have secured publishing or audiovisual contracts, and two production debuts through digital platforms and theater performances. The diverse range of topics reflect the courage and confidence with which these young artists approach different topics and challenges, concluded Deputy Minister Ting.

Through novels, prose, screenplays, and non-fiction writings, these eight young creators have shown their concern for Taiwan's history, culture, and society while sharing their observations on same-sex partnerships and re-thinking of parent-child relationships. Furthermore, the innovative ideas that are blended with popular culture and science fiction underscore the vivid imagination and dynamic creativity of their writers.

Following the success of the matchmaking workshop, the Ministry will organize a book launch for those who received an opportunity to be published in Taiwan.
