Jointly organized by the Mongolian & Tibetan Cultural Center of the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Keelung City, "Mongolian-Tibetan Living Artifacts Exhibition" will be on display on the 1st floor of the Keelung Cultural Center from Sept. 11 until Oct. 6.
Themed "Lifestyle and Culture," the exhibition will display Mongolian and Tibetan relics related to food, clothing, housing, travel, education, music, and other facets of the two cultures, so that visitors can taste the unique aesthetics and cultural characteristics of the Mongolian and Tibetan communities and appreciate the unique charm of nomadic life.
In addition, the cultural relics curated for this exhibition are rich and diverse. They include Mongolian and Tibetan traditional eating utensils, costumes, horse sweat scrapers, bridles, and other horse tack. Keelung exhibition-goers will also be greeted by the morin khuur (known as the horsehead fiddle, a traditional Mongolian bowed stringed instrument); cow horn cups, Mongolian chess, shagay (ankle bone), and other traditional games.
There will also be a full display of Tibetan folk relics such as masks used in Tibetan theater, dramyin (a traditional Himalayan folk music lute with six strings), ga’u (a small Tibetan prayer box for storing Buddha pendants that’s worn around the neck), wu duo (woven thick yak hair used to catch animals), and other items used for games and entertainment.
At the exhibition site, a Mongolian yurt and Tibetan tent will be set up to present the living conditions of the herdsmen in the Mongolian and Tibetan areas, and give visitors a stronger sense of life on the grasslands and plateaus and the cultural uniqueness of the Mongolian and Tibetan people, who adapt to their environment and live in harmony with nature.
The Fang Shiang Dance Theatre will perform Tibetan dances and bring Mongolian and Tibetan song performances with ethno characteristics to audiences at the opening ceremony slated for Sept. 11.
Organizers hope that through the presentation of this exhibition, people will receive a different experience about Mongolian and Tibetan nomadic life, and gain a deeper understanding of the beauty of Mongolian and Tibetan cultures.
