The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts will spotlight pictures taken by famous photographers before they turned 35 in this joint exhibition with the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts from June 23 through Sept. 16.
"Beginnings, Forever" will showcase 340 pictures by 74 photographers from around the world, spanning an era of 120 years from 1898 to 2016. Many of these photos were purchased by the Kiyosato museum during the past two decades through its "Young Portfolio" program.
Among the hefty photographic works chosen for this exhibition are those by 12 Taiwan artists ― Chang Chao-tang, Chen Po-i, Ho Mu-tien, Sim Chang, Wong Wei-chung, Li Hao, Chen Yan-cheng, Lin Hsuan-lang, Lin Wen-chiang, Yang Che-yi, and Chong Kok-yew ― that are in the Kiyosato museum's collections.
From the vantage of art history, early works may form the basis of an artist's philosophy and aesthetics ― a proverbial "home" that he or she always returns to nest. These core values are often formed before a career takes off, and remain embedded most brightly in the initial lot.
