The Taiwan Literature Award organized by the National Museum of Taiwan Literature is an indicative literary award of Taiwan emphasizing the artistry and creativity of literature. This is different from the literary awards organized by local governments featuring local customs and the National Award for Arts and the Wu San-Lian Awards that focus on the achievement of winners for encouragement.
Over the past decade years, the Taiwan Literature Award has attracted increasing numbers of local novelists and playwrights to vie for the award and has encouraged more, including old and new writers, to try and publish novels and dramas.
The Taiwan Literature Award includes two categories: books and original works. In the books category, the Novel Award is organized every year, with one winner who will receive a cash prize of NT$1 million. There are also Prose Awards and Poetry Awards that are organized each in alternate years, with one winner for each genre who will receive a cash prize of NT$300,000.
In the original works category, the Drama Award is organized every year, with one winner who will receive a cash prize of NT$300,000. There is also a Mother Tongue Literature Award for aboriginal languages, Taiwanese, and Hakkanese that is organized in turns, with one winner who will receive a cash prize of NT$200,000.
Recent recipients of the Taiwan Literature Awards include author Kan Yao-ming, Bunun poet Salizan Takisvilainan, writer Wu Ming-yi, and Amis novelist Nakao Eki Pacidal.
