- Ko served as a Kuomingtang legislator from 2004 to 2008. Because of his stance and demeanor, he was known as "General Ko” at the Legislative Yuan.
- He is known to have said: "Film is my life. Until I die, I will always be an actor.”
- He was an outspoken advocate for the digital restoration of old film reels, and spoke of his hopes for Taiwan-made films to be added to the UNESCO register.
