Taiwanese-Turkish artist Melek Kocasinan to attend Turkey's leading art fair Contemporary Istanbul

Taiwanese-Turkish contemporary artist Melek Kocasinan (高安琪) will participate in the 16th edition of the Contemporary Istanbul art fair at the Tersane Istanbul from Oct. 5 to 10, showcasing her stunning physical-digital collages detailing her experiences in New York and Taipei.

One of Kocasinan's exhibited artworks "NY Streets (紐約街頭)" was inspired by a weekend trip. She took a train to New York during her studies at Yale University. Capturing and drawing the vibrant energy of the streets of the city such as yellow cabs, tall buildings, blue sky with clouds, people walking in a hurry, she cut the painting and created the collage afterward.

The artwork is a powerful example of the "physi-digital" technique, in which she transforms physical collages and images with digital drawing skills.

Another highlight is the "Glow-in-the-Dark" series, which was inspired by the artist's childhood in Taipei. Through her imagination, the work shows Taipei's night markets, animals, and the excitement she experienced.

Stating that "Art for me is a way of remembering, a strong expression of my will to rebuild memory," Kocasinan uses paints, paper, cloth, as well as digital painting tools and pictures to explore new possibilities of digital and physical creation.

A total of 56 national and international galleries and non-profit art organizations will attend this year’s Contemporary Istanbul art fair. The artists on display will be predominantly contemporary living artists.
