Works by two Taiwanese video artists to feature at PROYECTOR video art festival in Spain

With the support from the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, Taiwanese video artists Tseng Yu-chin (曾御欽) and Ding Chien-chung (丁建中)'s new media artworks will be on view at the art space White Lab in Madrid from Sep. 8 to 19, as part of the 14th PROYECTOR video art festival.

87 artists from 32 countries will participate in this year's festival, and more than 100 video art works will be exhibited at 23 exhibition venues in Madrid. A total of nine artworks will be displayed at the White Lab, featuring Tseng's "Shivering Wall (顫動之牆)," Ding's "Vacant Room Series (空屋系列)," and the works of seven international artists.

In the scenes of "Shivering Wall," it shows the artist rushing to a nightclub and surrounded by people in a collectively psychedelic state and he is the only person sober in the room. Through the video, Tseng presents the separation between mind and body as well as the sense of physical loss that seems to symbolize a psychological state which is present and absent at the same time.

The "Vacant Room Series" has attempted to investigate the possibilities between structure and light by resetting the device to simulate the corresponding relationship between moving clock hands, such as the relationship between the light and the camera.

Tseng and Ding will attend the opening ceremony on Sep. 15 to share about the creation concept of their pieces in person. The Cultural Division hopes to present Taiwan's unique new media artistic strength to the world and continue to promote its international cultural exchange program.

Founded in 2008, "PROYECTOR" was initiated by a group of video artists, curators and cultural workers, with the aim to create a new media art exchange space, emphasizing on its experimental and public dialogue.
