2nd Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh to return on Oct. 25

Returning for its second edition, the Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh has announced its lineup, which includes a range of Taiwanese films dating from the 1930s to 2020. The festival will hold a free digital program of films, as well as in-person screenings and digital talks at the Glasgow Film Theatre and the Summerhall in Edinburgh, Scotland from Oct. 25 to 31.

With the theme of disruptions and transformations, the festival explores both historic shifts in Taiwanese society as well as the small disruptions of the everyday. The festival's programme will feature a range of topics, including war, urban life and LGBTQ+ rights, as well as screening works from legends of Taiwanese cinema. Viewers can pre-book digital screenings through the festival’s platform.

Among the 13 featured films, many of which are UK premieres, including "Dangerous Youth (危險的青春)," "Dust in the Wind (戀戀風塵)," "Foolish Bride, Naive Bridegroom (三八新娘憨子婿)," "Hill of No Return (無言的山丘)," "Peony Birds (牡丹鳥)," "Splendid Float (豔光四射歌舞團)," "Taipei Story (青梅竹馬)," "The Best Secret Agent (天字第一號)," "The Personals (徵婚啓事)," "A Morning in Taipei (臺北之晨)," "Closing Time, Deng Nan-guang's 8mm Movies (鄧南光8mm家庭電影)," "The Homecoming Pilgrimage of Dajia Mazu (大甲媽祖回娘家)," "Sacred Forest (神殿)," and "Whale Island (男人與他的海)."

In addition to screenings, the festival will also host Q&As and panel discussions, hoping to build a platform for filmmakers in Taiwan and audiences in the UK to connect and also to foster the cultural exchange between Taiwan and Europe.

Access to Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh digital titles is free but limited to a specific number of users per title. Ticket for a physical screening will be available to purchase soon.

Director of Taipei Representative Office UK Cultural Division, Dr Chen Pin-Chuan (陳斌全) said: "It is great to see Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh continuing their great work. Through these wonderful films from Taiwan, our office hopes to foster a connection with Scottish audiences, as we plan to introduce more of Taiwanese culture to Scotland in the near future."
