10 Taiwan classic literature-adapted short films to screen in Italy

The Cultural Division of Taipei Representative Office in Italy and the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures of Roma Tre University will jointly launch the "Translation and Promotion Plan of TV Series Adapted from Taiwan Classic Literature (臺灣經典文學改編電視劇之翻譯與推廣計畫)" at the Roma Tre University from Oct. 14 to Dec. 9.

To increase the international visibility of Taiwan literature, the program will screen 10 short films adapted from the great classics of Taiwan literature and hold two online lectures featuring Taiwanese writer Syaman Rapongan (夏曼·藍波安).

The program combines the first season of the "Reading Taiwan literature (閱讀時光)" series launched by MOC in 2014.

Based on the novels of the same names, the run-time for the 10 films are 25 minutes each and were produced by seven directors, including Wang Shau-di (王小棣), Cheng Wen-Tang (鄭文堂), Wang Ming-Tai (王明台), Shen Ko-shang (沈可尚), Cheng Yu-chieh (鄭有傑), Liao Shih-han (廖士涵), An Je-yi (安哲毅).

The adapted novels include Yang Kui’s (楊逵) "Newspaper Boy (送報伕)," Chu Tien-wen's (朱天文) "End of A Century: Miea's Story (世紀末的華麗)," Lo Yi-chin's (駱以軍) "Spring Beauty (降生十二星座)," Ko Yu-fen's (柯裕棻) "Refrigerator," Chang Hwei-ching's (張惠菁) "Moth (蛾)," Jiji's (季季) "Walking Tree (行走的樹)," Daren Liu's (劉大任) "Wan Feng Xi Yu (晚風細雨)," Syaman Rapongan's "Old Seafarer (老海人洛馬比克)," Liao Yu-hui's (廖玉蕙) "Later (後來)," Fish Wang's (王登鈺) "Elephant (大象)."

This year, the featured films are subtitled in Italian for the first time by a team from the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures of Roma Tre University.
