Taiwan artists garner glowing reviews at Madrid’s Hybrid Art Fair

Three Taiwanese artists exhibited at the annual Hybrid Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid and received top-notch reviews. After the fair concluded, there was a luncheon on March 2 for the Taiwanese artists and in attendance were Taiwan's Representative to Spain José María Liu (劉德立), Secretary of the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain Isabel Lin Pin-hua (林品樺), fair curator and co-director Eugenia Chenlo, and the three featured artists Lien Chien-hsing (連建興), Julie Hsieh (謝宛儒), and Chiang Ying-chen (江盈臻).

Ambassador Liu first thanked the artists for their hard work and efforts on attending the Madrid exhibition. He also expressed great pleasure in seeing such Taiwanese individuals accumulate international experience and garner further creative energy through transnational exchanges. Liu also paid tribute to fair co-director Chenlo and thanked her for her unfaltering support.

The art fair was held at the Madrid-based Hotel Petit Palace Santa Barbara from Feb. 28 through March 1 and exhibited 16 works from the three Taiwanese artists. On March 1, artist Hsieh also performed an improvisational performance called the "Ink Creation Show," receiving outstanding feedback from the viewers in return.

Moreover, co-director Chenlo added that throughout the fair, many art professionals who talked to her commented on the stunning works presented by the Taipei-based Yuan Ru Gallery (宛儒畫廊). Additionally, well-known Taiwanese actor and curator Sphinx Ting (丁春誠) attended the fair and was very impressed by the Taiwanese selection.

The Hybrid Contemporary Art Fair focuses on promoting emerging artists and attracts important galleries and collectors from all over Europe and around the world through its unique forms of art and curated interdisciplinary events with live music and performances. It is an exhibition for talented artists with much potential but little resources to be seen and discovered. Taiwan's representative office in Spain and the Ministry of Culture's Madrid office will continue to facilitate Taiwanese participation in important visual arts events throughout Spain and Europe.
