Taiwanese choreographer to unveil new dance work in NYC

New York-based Taiwanese choreographer Yung-Li Chen will unveil her latest dance work at the annual road closure event "Summer Streets” at the Uptown Rest Stop in New York on Aug. 17.


Chen has invited seven young dancers from Taiwan, South Korea and the United States to jointly perform her new work, entitled "Ready/Go,” at Park Avenue & East 51st Street in New York City. Chen and her dancers rehearsed the work at the Mana Contemporary Art Center in Jersey City during their residency there.


The seven dancers are Miriam Gabriel, Monica Gonzalez, Kimmy Kim, Michelle Maleh, Seung-hyun Park, Annie Saeugling and Lydia Wei. They havespent a total of ten days in interpreting the core concept of Chen's work, which is centered on the application of four elements - preparation, construction, decomposition and repetition, and everyday life.


The performance, which is sponsored by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture, is jointly supported by the New York's Armitage Foundation and the New Jersey-based Mana Contemporary Art Center.
