The 2013 Taiwan International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo (TICCIE) will be dedicated to reinvigorating traditional crafts and natural elements, the Ministry of Culture announced on Aug. 5.
The TICCIE was first established in 2009 to exhibit furniture, home accessories, domestic utensils, stationery and creative products to illustrate the ethics of modern life.
Now in its fourth year, the expo's Annual Theme Pavilion will explore the richness of Taiwan's natural dyes and indigenous weaving techniques. Visitors will be able to learn about the recent revival of the local dye industry, which was a major contributor to Taiwan's economic boom during the late twentieth century.
The annual expo will also display award-winning Taiwanese designs, products from major cultural and creative companies from around the world and items with local cultural elements that are jointly made by university innovation incubation centers and micro-enterprises.
'We hope to build a comprehensive platform for all industries,' explained Vice Culture Minister George C. H. Hsu.
Deals as a result of the expo have increased from over NT$100 million (US$3.34 million) in its first year to NT$260 million last year, added Chang Pen-tsao, chairman of the General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China, a co-organizer of the 2013 TICCIE.
The expo, which serves as a trading and exchange platform for corporate procurement, brand licensing, distributor networking and business matchmaking, will run from Nov. 21 until 24 at the Nangang Exhibition Hall of the Taipei World Trade Center (TaipeiEx).
Last year's four-day expo attracted over 84,000 visitors and saw over 500 companies and institutions from 15 countries and regions occupying more than 950 booths.
This year, with more than three months before the expo kicks off, over 90 percent of the 950 booths available have already been taken by foreign companies and institutions from a total of 17 countries.
