Taiwanese calligraphy artist Yu Mei-chen (于美珍), who is currently a teacher at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall's art appreciation program, was commended by the 2013 International Culture Art Fair of South Korea on June 15.
Yu, the only foreign award recipient this year, attended the ceremony in Seoul on Saturday. South Korea's veteran entertainer Choi Bul Am, renowned actor Choi Soo Jong and singer Kim Tae Kon also received the same honor from the Korean Fine Arts Association (KFAA).
In addition to the 2013 award from the KFAA, Yu haspreviously received similar honors at the Biennial of Tashkent in Uzbekistan as well as from the United States and Japan.
Each year, the South Korean culture fair recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the arts. The award categories include performing arts, traditional arts and popular culture.
