National Museum of Prehistory initiates cultural exchange program in Hawaii

The National Museum of Prehistory, in collaboration with the East-West Center and the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Music Department, inaugurated the cultural exchange program “The Island is Our Canoe, The Sea is Our Pathway” on June 5. Emphasizing themes such as “Resilience,” “Craftsmanship,” and “Healing,” the event attracted local audiences and fostered impactful dialogue.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the program invited Taiwanese Indigenous cultural practitioners, including the organizer of the Amis Music Festival, Mita Idea (米大創意); Paiwan tattoo artist Cudjuy Patrijes (宋海華); Tao boat builder Syaman Misrako (張世凱); and Paiwan glass bead artist Kedrekedr Maljaljaves (林秀慧).

Through “The Island is Our Canoe, The Sea is Our Pathway,” a total of four art performances and three cultural workshops took place at the East-West Center, University of Manoa, and Bishop Museum on June 5, 6, and 10, respectively.
