To build the first children’s cultural venue in Taiwan, the Executive Yuan has planned for the establishment of the National Children’s Future Museum in New Taipei City. The museum’s architecture competition, organized by the Ministry of Culture, was won by MAYU architects and TOYO ITO & Associates, Architects. On June 26, Culture Minister Li Yuan met with Japanese architect Toyo Ito (伊東豊雄), who is contributing to the design of the national-level cultural facility for children in Taiwan.
Minister Li presented Ito with a children’s tale he had written as a gift, and the architect reciprocated with his architecture portfolio. Li hopes that the children’s museum will unleash kids’ boundless vitality and creativity. Meanwhile, Ito vows to devote his energies to constructing a museum loved by young and old.
The design process for the National Children’s Future Museum officially began this year. Based on the concept of “the children’s city in the forest,” the architecture team emphasizes the design for learning, playing, and cultivating. On each floor will be distinct characteristics and flexible spaces inside the building are designed to accommodate different forms of exhibitions in the future.
