The East-Central Europe literary festival, Authors’ Reading Month (ARM), was inaugurated on July 1 at the Goose on a String Theatre in Brno City, the Czech Republic. This year, Taiwan has been invited to be the guest of honor, bringing 31 Taiwanese writers to Czechia and Slovakia to engage with local readers.
During the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture Lee Ching-hwi (李靜慧) expressed her honor at Taiwan being selected as the first-ever Asian country as the guest of honor. She highlighted that this initiative will foster a deeper cultural exchange between Taiwan and East-Central Europe.
Taiwanese writer Li Ang (李昂) recited her novel “Bloody Sacrifice with Color Make-up (彩妝血祭)” in the opening, enlightening the audience on gender issues and stories of political victims of the February 28 incident in 1947 in Taiwan.
From now until Aug. 4, Taiwan’s readers can watch the festival’s livestream through the ARM’s Facebook page. For more information, please see the ARM’s website.
