Celebrating the upcoming Paris Olympic Games and Cultural Olympiad, the Ministry of Culture (MOC) invited several noted traditional performing art groups to jointly perform the show “As You Like It (在恁佮意).” The rehearsal of the show was held on July 18, with Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) and Culture Minister Li Yuan in attendance, cheering for the team representing Taiwan in Paris.
“As You Like It” is a special performance co-created by Our Theatre (阮劇團), Shiu-Kim Taiwanese Opera Troupe (秀琴歌劇團), Ming Hwa Yuan - the Ri Theatrical Troupe (明華園日字戲劇團), Banlamgu Culture (閩南嶼文化), Rom Shing Hakka Opera Troupe (榮興客家採茶劇團), and Shintrun Taiwanese Opera Troupe (薪傳歌仔戲劇團).
After watching the rehearsal, Premier Cho said that the confidence and diversity in “As You Like It” highlight the beauty and depth of Taiwan’s traditional culture. He noted that a total of 24 art groups, comprising 112 members, will stage 57 shows in the Cultural Olympiad.
The MOC said that in addition to traditional opera, Team Taiwan will showcase performances of various genres, including shows that feature a fusion of styles, including electronic indigenous music, Taiwanese Minnan-Hakka language, and a mix of traditional and modern musical instruments.
