The 2024 Taiwan Music Composition and 21th Songwriting Contest was held at Zepp New Taipei on Aug. 24. Following brilliant performances by the finalists, the top prize in the Hakka, Indigenous languages, and Hokkien categories were awarded to Chang Chih Chia (張智嘉), Kung Ya-ming (孔亞明), and the duo Liu Wang-ting (劉婉婷) and Lu Hsiao-ting (呂孝廷) respectively.
The judging panel stated that this year’s performers are creative and imaginative in fusing their native languages with musical compositions, showcasing the vibrant energy and possibilities in Taiwan’s music.
First launched in 2004, the Taiwan Music Composition and Songwriting Contest (formerly known as the Taiwan Original Music Awards) is one of Taiwan’s main platforms for promoting the creation of original music in native languages. Setting it apart from other music awards is the twist that all finalists must compete live.
In addition to prize money, the top award winners will receive assistance in producing their own music videos and will perform live at Huashan 1914 Creative Park on Sept. 21. For more information, visit the competition’s official website and Facebook page.
