Taiwan International Human Rights Film Festival 2024 launched in Taipei

The National Human Rights Museum (NHRM) launched the Taiwan International Human Rights Film Festival 2024 on Sept. 19. The selected films will be screened at Taipei’s Spot Huashan Cinema from Sept. 19 to 22, the Kaohsiung Film Archive from Sept. 26 to 29, and the Taichung Film Development Foundation from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5. In addition, collaborative screenings will take place from Oct. 14 to Nov. 15 across the country.

Titled “The Road to Truth / Eyes on the Present,” the festival’s two main sections approach various human rights issues from different perspectives: “Gender Equality” uses visual storytelling to restore, piece together, revisit, observe, document, and explore our differences in perception; “Human Rights Lens” critically examines hatred and forgiveness through the lenses of history, people, land, and identity, helping us understand the different progressions of human rights around the world today.

The festival was established followed the opening of the NHRM in 2017, with the goal of promoting human rights education through films.

Culture Minister Li Yuan highlighted that this year’s festival includes a newly inaugurated short film competition. He hopes that the event would expand internationally, further establishing itself as a significant platform for human rights discourse in Asia.
