On Oct. 18, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) announced the full list of participating artists for the 2024 Asian Art Biennial, titled “How to Hold Your Breath”. The title, a play on the phrase “don’t hold your breath,” which tells the listener to not to expect change soon, hints at potential hope for the future.

A total of 35 artists from over 20 countries across East, West, and Central Asia, as well as the Pacific region, will be showcasing 83 artworks, 19 of which brand new creations that are set to be displayed for the first time.

These artworks, which will be in different forms such as sound, video, photography, painting, sculpture, and installation art, challenge the ideas of progressivism and the universal notion of time, guiding the audience to focus on the now while reflecting on the world.

In addition to the exhibition, multiple other activities are also planned to take place alongside the biennial, including performances, artist forums, and film screenings.

The 2024 Asian Art Biennial is set to open from Nov. 16, 2024, to Mar. 2, 2025. For more information, visit the Biennial’s official website, Facebook page and Instagram account.
