‘Histories and Archives of Independent Art Spaces of Asia’ symposium held in Taipei

The international symposium “Histories and Archives of Independent Art Spaces of Asia (亞洲獨立藝術空間歷史與檔案)”, co-organized by the Ministry of Culture (MOC), Asia Art Archive (AAA), and Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB), was held from Apr. 11 to 13.

The opening ceremony on Apr. 11 was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture Sue Wang (王時思), National Culture and Arts Foundation Chairman Xiang Yang (向陽), Asia Art Archive Executive Director Christopher Ho (何恩懷), Taiwan Living Arts Foundation Chairman Peng Chun-heng (彭俊亨), and other distinguished guests.

Deputy Minister Wang noted that since 2022, the MOC has collaborated with the AAA on the Independent Art Spaces of Taiwan project, which seeks to preserve the legacy of independent art spaces that have emerged across Taiwan. The project aims to showcase, interpret, and document Taiwan’s art movements while fostering international collaboration.

Director Ho emphasized that AAA’s presence at C-LAB since 2022 has significantly strengthened the institution’s art research capabilities, resulting in a range of seminars and workshops that promote dialogue among art spaces, artists, and researchers throughout the country.

The two-day symposium featured various activities, including a keynote speech, four themed sessions, a roundtable discussion, one closing lecture, and two performances under the title “Artist Intervention,” presenting diverse artistic viewpoints and art forms.
