As the countdown begins for the Ministry of Culture’s cultural program “We Taiwan” at Expo 2025 Osaka, Minister of Culture Li Yuan presented an ita-bag adorned with the event mascot “a-We” to Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) and other heads of ministries during an Executive Yuan meeting on June 12. The Ministry also announced a range of exclusive events now open for booking.

Much like the evolution of Taiwan’s main island, the cultural program’s mascot, a-We, is a fictional creature born from the collision of the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate. Symbolizing resilience and optimism, it embodies a bubble of hope, emerging from hardship and constantly transfiguring in its quest for means of survival.

The program will feature over 545 artists from 38 art groups, delivering a total of 129 performances. In addition, cultural markets will be held over two weekends, showcasing Taiwan’s distinctiveness to international visitors.

Minister Li introduced the program at the meeting and highlighted several exciting events. They include the internationally acclaimed tech-dance performance “Huang Yi & KUKA (黃翊與庫卡),” the XR work “Free UR Head (放開你的頭腦)”—a Venice Film Festival nominee, the immersive children’s theater piece “Telling Tent (移動故事屋),” and more.

The cultural program, “We Taiwan,” is schedule to take place from Aug. 2 to 20 at Expo 2025 Osaka. For more information on “We Taiwan,” visit the program’s official website, follow the program on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, and add the official LINE account.
