MOC mourns the passing of author and television show host Wang Hao-yi

Author, cultural worker, and television show host Wang Hao-yi (王浩一) passed away on June 29 at the age of 69. Upon receiving the news, Minister of Culture Li Yuan expressed his condolences and praised Wang for his lifelong dedication to illuminating the beauty and diversity of Taiwan’s culture. Through his writing and photography, Wang captured the essence of Taiwan—its landscapes, its stories, and most importantly, its people.

Born in 1956 in Nantou, Wang earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from National Cheng Kung University, where he was later honored as the department’s first recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award. In 2013, he founded Chivalry Cultural and Creative Industry & Consultant Ltd (俠客行文創), focusing on enriching urban life through writing and cultural exploration. He authored numerous works exploring themes such as regional culture, architecture, cuisine, travel, and philosophy.

Wang won the Golden Bell Award for Best Host in a Lifestyle Show twice for the documentary television program “Slow Travel Adventures (浩克慢遊).” The acclaimed TV show, co-hosted by writer Liu Ka-shiang (劉克襄), invites viewers to embark on an immersive journey through Taiwan’s rich history, culture, and nature. Through Wang’s keen observations and engaging narrative style, audiences are encouraged to explore the intricate details that define Taiwanese life.

Minister Li further commends for Wang’s contribution to the ministry’s cultural project, adding that Wang, invited by the MOC to serve as a jury member for the Taiwan Cultural Base initiative, consistently emphasized the importance of highlighting Taiwan’s unique cultural assets—such as Indigenous culture and military dependents’ villages—as a way to reflect the nation’s multicultural identity.
