The National Human Rights Museum (NHRM) launched the signage system for historical sites of injustice at Green Island White Terror Memorial Park on May 17, commemorating the events that occurred at the “Freshman Orientation Office (新生訓導處)” and “Green Island Lodge (綠洲山莊).”
“Freshman Orientation Office” and “Green Island Lodge” served as prisons for political victims during the martial law period. Established in the 1950s, the compound of the “Freshman Orientation Office” underwent restoration in 2010, while “Green Island Lodge” has remained in good condition to this day.
The NHRM initiated the signage system to connect the sites of injustice in Taiwan, following the blueprint provided by the Transitional Justice Commission in 2020. Earlier this year, the signage was introduced in Ankang Reception House (安康接待室), Jing-Mei White Terror Memorial Park (白色恐怖景美紀念園區), Tang Te-chang Memorial Park (湯德章紀念公園), and the Kaohsiung Museum of History (高雄市立歷史博物館). The NHRM aims to highlight 10 sites of injustice across the country this year.
