NCFTA reveals 35th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music nominees

The 35th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music is scheduled to take place on Aug. 31 at the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center. The organizer of the event, the National Center for Traditional Arts (NCFTA), held a press conference on July 3 to officially reveal the award nominees.

 

Chen Yueh-i (陳悅宜), the director of NCFTA, highlighted that this year the awards received 382 submissions in the music category and 315 entries in the opera category. She noted that submitted works in the opera category saw a 15% increase compared to last year.

 

The NCFTA announced that a total of 95 groups of performers and 38 pieces of performances made it into the finals. Notably, “Legend & Inheritance II, Jiang Wen-Ye (傳承與展望-江文也紀念專輯),” a music production by the National Symphony Orchestra and Lü Shao-chia (呂紹嘉), was nominated for five awards, and “Tears of the Phoenix (鳳凰變)” by the Shiu-Kim Taiwanese Opera Troupe (秀琴歌劇團) was nominated for seven awards.

 

Furthermore, musicologist Loh I-to (駱維道) and theater scholar Chiu Kun-liang (邱坤良) will be honored with the Special Award for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
