Taiwan-Malaysia-Singapore Film ‘Snow in Midsummer’ honored at New York Asian Film Festival

Taiwan-made films “Suffocating Love (愛的噩夢),” “Trouble Girl (小曉),” and “Snow in Midsummer (五月雪)” were selected for Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film Competition at this year’s New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF). During the closing ceremony on July 28, it was unveiled that “Snow in Midsummer” had won the award.

At the ceremony, the film’s director, Chong Keat-aun (張吉安), noted that “Snow in Midsummer,” a film about an historical incident in Malaysia, has been screening in the country for a week but remains incomplete due to censorship by local authorities, who have redacted 27 parts of the film. He expressed hope that, following its recognition at NYAFF, the uncensored version of the film will be screened in Malaysia.

In addition, “Suffocating Love” was screened at the SVA Theatre in New York and received positive feedback from the audience. The film’s director, Liao Ming-yi (廖明毅), along with the lead actors Austin Lin (林柏宏) and Nikki Hsieh (謝欣穎), attended a press conference at the Taipei Cultural Center in New York on July 28 to discuss their experience at the festival.
