The Ministry of Culture (MOC) hosted the first regional forum on the development of Taiwanese Taigi at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei on July 27. This forum marks the beginning of the 2024 National Languages Development Convention and will be followed by a series of discussions on national languages, including Taiwan Sign Language, Matsu dialect, Taiwanese Hakka, and Taiwanese Indigenous languages.
The forum began with a keynote speech by Ho Hsin-han (何信翰), associate professor in the Department of Taiwanese Languages and Literature at National Taichung University of Education. He addressed written terminologies for national languages and encouraged representatives from all sectors to share their experiences using Taiwanese Taigi in everyday life, aiming to spark new breakthroughs through public discussions.
The subsequent panel discussion, moderated by Executive Director Tan Hong-hui (陳豐惠) of the Li Kang Khioh Taiwanese Cultural & Educational Foundation (李江却台語文教基金會), featured Artistic Director Wang Rong-yu (王榮裕) of the Golden Bough Theatre (金枝演社), Director Lin Yung-chih (林永志) of the Taipei Puppet Theater (臺北木偶劇團), Director Hung Ching-kun (洪慶坤) of the Taipei Quyituan (台北曲藝團), and Chiang Wen-yu (江文瑜), professor at the Graduate Institute of Linguistics, National Taiwan University.
