Taiwanese artist Lin Hsin-yueh (林惺嶽) passed away on Jan. 7 at the age of 87. Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), and Minister of Culture Li Yuan attended Lin’s memorial at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum on Mar. 27, where Vice Premier Cheng presented a posthumous certificate to Wei Chin-hsiu (魏錦秀) on behalf of her late husband.
Lin was a painter, art educator, and cultural critic who used his canvas as a stage to showcase the surging emotions of the Taiwanese people and their land. Considered one of the nation’s most dynamic art warriors, Lin’s unique and frank interpretations of many events in Taiwan’s art scene have also earned him the title of “godfather to Taiwanese art guardians.”
Minister Li praised Lin’s remarkable career as an inspiration to artists across the country and highlighted his pivotal contributions to the development of Taiwan’s fine arts.
