Succession causes constant changes in the biodiversity of a region. If this concept is extended to cultural aspects, with the passage of time and the constant changes in the environment, human life may also undergo 'succession' without notice.”
"Bio Apartment Vol. 3 - Succession,” a collaborative exhibition featuring artworks and collections of fauna and flora, will open at Taipei's art galleries, museums, studios, and bookstores from Oct. 1 through 31.
Co-curated by the National Taiwan Museum and the National Taiwan University Museums, the exhibition entering its third year seeks to raise public awareness of biodiversity through a collaboration of arts and sciences.
The joint exhibition will be divided into four sections to present works created by 21 teams of artists, two science theater performances, and three tour routes linking the eight participating venues.
Featured artists include award-winning Taiwanese metalsmith Wu Ching-chih (吳竟銍), French sound artist Yannick Dauby (澎葉生), Chilean bio-researcher/performer Klau Kinki, and the Taichung-based Laboratory of Fragrance & Perfume (LFP香料香水實驗室).
The National Taiwan Museum leg of the exhibition will also showcase animals, plants, and geological specimens collected by the National Taiwan University, as well as images of rare species from the museum's own archive.
In line with the underlying concept of previous exhibitions, "Bio Apartment” aims to prompt dialogues between scientists and artists by exploring alternatives ways to draw public attention to cultural and environmental issues.
