Commemorative calligraphy exhibition of Han Pao-teh kicks off in Taipei

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of renowned architect and calligrapher Han Pao-teh (漢寶德), the National Museum of History (NMH) launched the exhibition “The World of Calligraphy Art – Han Pao-Teh’s Modern Expression (書藝人間-漢寶德書寫之美)” at the Taipei Branch of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) on Nov. 30.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture Li Yuan praised Han for enriching Taiwan’s culture, adding that Han has made significant contributions in numerous fields, including architecture, heritage restoration, and cultural preservation.

Featuring 102 of Han’s calligraphic works, the exhibition is divided into four sections based on the pieces’ creation period and stylistic characteristics, including “Learning from the Past (循古);” “Lyricism in Calligraphy (抒情);” “Composition and Arrangement (構成);” and “Innovation and Freshness (新象).”

The NMH noted that the exhibition is not only a tribute to Han’s legacy, but also a showcase of the infinite possibilities of artistic presentation, where the audience can see the crossover between the power in his calligraphy and the aesthetics in his architectural designs.

The exhibition is set to run until Feb. 23, 2025. For more information, visit the NMH’s official website.
