The Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) launched “Jun T. Lai: A Retrospective (黑潮:賴純純回顧展),” featuring the works of Taiwanese artist Jun T. Lai (賴純純), showing the artist’s evolution spanning five decades.
TFAM held the exhibition’s opening press conference on Mar. 8. Liu Te-chien (劉得堅), TFAM’s acting director, noted that Jun T. Lai’s works, including paintings and mixed-media pieces, convey a sense of ease and composure, showcasing the artist’s vision through vibrant colors.
Born in 1953 in Taipei, Jun T. Lai was mentored by master Liao Chi-Chun (廖繼春) during her college years and began to explore colors as a means of expression. While studying in Japan, she formulated the core concepts for her later spatial works. In 1986, she established the Studio of Contemporary Art (SOCA) to advocate for avant-garde art. Since 2007, she has focused her life on creating art in Taitung, eastern Taiwan, redirecting her attention to the independent expression of colors while expressing a profound desire for nature.
This exhibition explores the artist’s creative journey through four themes spanning from the 1970s to the present. It features nearly one hundred exhibits, including oil, acrylic, and mixed media paintings, as well as sculptures, installations, hand drawings, manuscripts, videos, and archives.
This exhibition runs until May 25. For more information, visit TFAM official website.
