The National Museum of Taiwan History (NMTH) launched the exhibition “Bytes to Remember: Taiwan’s Culinary Memories (數味食光:臺灣飲食記憶特展)” on Mar. 11, showcasing Taiwan’s cultural treasures through 15 sets of keywords related to food and beverages.
Since 2021, the NMTH has overseen the Taiwan Cultural Memory Bank, which consists of recollections and stories accumulated over time, written, recorded, and uploaded by the public and serves as a treasure house for Taiwan’s rich, diverse cultural legacy.
Drawing from the Taiwan Cultural Memory Bank, as well as materials from the museum, private collections, and local communities, the exhibition paints a picture of Taiwan’s dietary habits. It highlights the evolution of the island’s food culture and explores how Taiwanese cuisine fosters social development and international exchange.
NMTH Director Chang Lung-chih (張隆志) noted that the museum has been promoting the Taiwan Cultural Memory Bank since 2021 to strengthen community engagement. By connecting Taiwan’s multicultural communities, the exhibition illustrates ways of life across different eras on the island.
The exhibition runs until Nov. 9. For more information, visit NMTH official website and Facebook page.
