The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts inaugurated the art exhibition “Landscape Variations – Lee Chung-Chung’s Art Journey (山水變奏—李重重的水墨歷程)” on Aug. 3. This exhibition showcases the works of Lee Chung-chung (李重重), an important Taiwanese female painter with a landmark significance in the history of modern ink wash art in the country.
“Landscape Variations—Lee Chung-Chung’s Ink Art Journey” features Lee’s early drawings, oil paintings, sketches, and archival images, and categorizes her ink paintings into various periods. Lee’s unique ink paintings characterized by an elegant palette and abstract blocks and planes, have made her a distinctive and unswerving presence in the male-dominated field of ink art.
Chen Teng-chin (陳登欽), the secretary-general of the Ministry of Culture, said that this solo exhibition plays a vital role in the ministry’s policy of reconstructing Taiwan’s art history, providing important pieces to the greater picture with Lee’s artworks.
This exhibition runs now until Nov. 3 at NTMoFA in Taichung City. Visit NTMoFA’s website for more information.
