To promote the integration of arts and digital technologies, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) has launched an online exhibition titled “Reimagining Historic Sites: Through the Eyes of Shiy De Jinn (再現席德進眼中的歷史場域),” featuring late painter Shiy De Jinn (席德進)’s sketches of Taiwanese traditional architecture and his significant contribution to historic building conservation.
Born in China in 1923, Shiy moved to Taiwan in 1948. Known for his unique visual vocabulary derived from Taiwan’s diverse cultures and landscapes, the painter sought to inject new vitality and thought into classic Chinese paintings while drawing on local sights and scenes. He created numerous illustrations of Taiwan’s architectural heritage, faithfully reflecting historic sites on the island and demonstrating his dedication to preserving ancient buildings.
The exhibition utilizes digital technologies to represent Taiwan’s past through Shiy’s works, transcending the boundaries of time and space. Using AI visual algorithms to reinterpret Shiy’s art pieces, viewers can see the detail of brush strokes and hues.
