There are many reasons why Taiwan should learn more about Southeast Asia and work with Southeast Asian countries to find a vision and possibilities for our common future. It is not merely that Southeast Asia is geographically close to us, or that many Southeast Asian people have become our husbands and wives, our brothers- and sisters-in-law, our health care providers and our workforce colleagues, helping to rebuild the island's infrastructure. In fact, Taiwan's economic, cultural and social development is interconnected with that of our neighbors.
