Encompassing fashion shows, global brands, exciting forums, and interdisciplinary exhibitions, the 2019 Taipei Fashion Week SS20 will be held at various venues across Taipei from Oct. 4 through 13 to showcase the versatility and richness of Taiwan’s vogue industry and the viewpoints of a new generation of designers, whose outlook will reshape the future of fashion.
The 2019 theme "NOWism" encapsulates the belief that "Taiwan's future is now," as the present is forged upon hard-won freedoms and the inheritance of diverse heritage and cultural legacies. Minister of Culture Cheng Li-chiun noted that fashion is part of culture, as it exists in daily life and can help broaden or mold one's perspective on the world and one's place in it.
Apart from a welcome gala and five theme shows, there will also be 16 brand shows and a special showcase of 60 domestic brands under the banner "Taipei IN Style." Taiwanese and international designers and artists have also joined forces to stage exhibitions on textile innovations, unique brand aesthetics, and new talents in the field.
The Taiwan Fashion Design Award, billed as the oldest and largest design award in Asia since its establishment in 1987, will be held concurrently with Taipei Fashion Week SS20. In recent years, the award organizers have placed increasing emphasis on both sustainability and function, and this year’s finalists will see their creations on the Taipei runway.
Over 400 exhibitors from around the world will also set up roughly 1,000 booths at the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show, a one-stop service center for fabrics, ready-to-wear apparel, accessories, and textile equipment. The tradeshow will also offer special machines such as ultrasonic seamless sewing, sealing machines, and template sewing machines in response to the demand for automation by garment manufacturers.
The event ambassadors of this year's Taipei Fashion Week are music artist 9m88, fashion blogger Molly Chiang (莫莉), actor Roy Chiu (邱澤), singer-songwriter Christine Fan (范瑋琪), model Annie Chen (陳庭妮), TV presenters Blackie Chen (陳建州) and Mickey Huang (黃子佼), and actress Lan Hsin-mei (藍心湄).
The main events will take place at the Taipei World Trade Center (Exhibition Hall 3), Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (Hall 1), with additional pop-up stores, bazaars, and after parties scheduled to be co-held with Xinyi Vieshow, Eslite Xinyi Store, Chianti Plaza, and Nuit Blanche Taipei.
