App offers virtual tour of National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts

The Taichung-based National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) maintains a "NTMoFA Kit (國美館藝術漫步)" app since 2017 to provide more convenient access to exhibitions, artworks, and museum grounds. A new function on the mobile application was launched in April to offer an online tour of the "Stone Tablet Forest (碑林廣場)" and invite the public to visit the beautiful landscapes of the museum via digital means.

NTMoFA is surrounded by the Stone Tablet Forest and Sculpture Park, which jointly include 45 sculptures and 50 calligraphic wall inscriptions, creating a corridor of art leading to the museum building. The sculptures are largely created by Taiwanese artists and composed of different materials ranging from metal and clay to stone. The Stone Tablet Forest, having an entryway on Yingcai Road, is a popular relaxing spot with its calligraphy art and greenery.

The smartphone app aims to give the public more opportunities to see and learn about the museum, art pieces on display, and upcoming exhibitions and events. Additionally, when museum-goers actually visit the Taichung venue in person, they can scan the QR code next to each of the artwork to learn more about the artist and the inspiration behind the piece.

To uphold epidemic prevention measures during the COVID-19 crisis, Taiwan is still dissuading the behavior of traveling for pleasure and sharing crowded space. "NTMoFA Kit" is the museum's way of encouraging the public to remain in touch with their inner Picasso and deepen their appreciation for the arts.
