School children from mountainous villages attend 'Cloud Gate Dandelion Dance' session

Students from four elementary schools at mountainous villages in Taoyuan County enjoyed the fun of learning the basics of modern dance, attending a dance experience session jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the Cloud Gate Culture and Arts Foundation at the roof stadium of the Gaoyi Elementary School on September 10.

As part of the culture experience program of the Ministry of Culture, the dance experience session was led by one instructor and two dance demonstrators, elaborating the development of ballet and modern dance, demonstrating movements of oriental dances, and introducing the basics training at the Cloud Gate. Through the Cloud Gate dancers' demonstrations, the children were able to get a better understanding of body movements. The dancers also showed segments of classic Cloud Gate works. Encouraging children to experience the fun of dancing, the dancers told them to develop dances from movements in daily life.

The Ministry of Culture and the Cloud Gate Culture and Arts Foundation jointly organize the "Cloud Gate Dandelion Dance" culture experience education project, bringing together school children in remote regions to experience the fun of dance. Expected to run until October 22, it will reach 1445 students in 29 schools across Fuxing District in Taoyuan County; Wufeng and Jianshi Townships in Hsinchu County; Ren'ai, Xinyi, and Nanzhuang Townships in Nantou; and Miaoli's Tai'an Township. The September 10 dance experience session in Taoyuan was attended by 121 students from Taoyuan County’s Gaoyi Elementary and the neighboring Guanghua, Baleng, and Sanguang Elementary Schools.

The Ministries of Culture and Education have worked on culture experience education project since 2017. Thus far, they have assisted with some 300-plus proposals, matching 189 schools with projects through a dedicated website from the Ministry of Education.

Regarding the "Cloud Gate Dandelion Dance" culture experience education project, the Cloud Gate plans in 2020-2012 to hold dance experience sessions each year at no less than 10 elementary schools in remote regions where art and cultural resources are scarce. Cloud Gate expects that the business sector will support the project, which is with the auspice of related government agencies.
