Taiwanese artist Hung Yi presents 14 sculptures in travelling exhibition in Spain

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Taiwanese artist Hung Yi (洪易) has been holding a travelling exhibition titled "Galaxia Hung" across many cities in Spain, with its premiere at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia receiving positive acclaim.

From April 16 to July 12 this year, the exhibition takes place at the southern tourist city of Benidorm, displaying 14 dazzling large-scale sculptures which will allow the public in Spain to appreciate the charm of Taiwanese contemporary art. Four sculptures are currently being exhibited at Plaza de la Hispanidad, two in Gambo Street, six in Avenida del Mediterráneo and two in Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes of España, in front of the City Hall.

Having been impacted by the pandemic, different parts of Spain have begun to relax restrictions for private gatherings since May. Hung Yi, along with mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez, the councilor for Historical Heritage Ana Pellicer, curator Eduardo Alcade, and leader of local diaspora Zeng An-ni (曾安妮) officially launched the exhibition via video call on May 28.

Mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez actively assisted in organizing the exhibition, and praised Hung Yi’s works for their artistic value. Hung’s works, which are composed of colorful paintings on stainless steel sculptures, attracted the attention of the public, allowing them to experience Taiwan’s local character.

Born in 1970, Hung’s works are imbued with originality and personal character. He has received approval for his international exhibitions held in Hakone, Japan, Washington, New York, and San Francisco, among others. As COVID-19 continues to affect the world, Hung’s "Galaxia Hung" exhibition will continue to take place across Spain, touching the hearts of many with its vivid art pieces as well as bringing Taiwanese culture to the world stage.
