Industrial Technology Research Institute launches special exhibition 'By __ __ experiment'

Having invited artists to its laboratory to seek inspiration and boldly create, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) officially launched a special exhibition "By __ __ experiment (以__ __實驗)" online on August 20.

The exhibition included works by artists Huang Wei-hsuan (黃偉軒), Hsieh Chieh-hua (謝杰樺), Liu Chien-wei (劉千瑋), Lai Chun-ting (賴俊廷) who collaborated with three respective laboratories at the ITRI.

The technological art team formed by the artist and the laboratory gradually discovered and accepted each other's "differences" in the process of co-creation. The artist uses multi-layer printing, AI image recognition, circuit design, ultra-fine LED display, transparent screen, new media and sensing technologies to correspond to dance theater, superhuman perception, virtual and physical scenes, as well as cultural restoration.

Huang Wei-hsuan believes that technological development will inevitably affect the creative level, as it takes more time to understand the production and specifications in order to use technology appropriately, and allow technology to be a form of discourse.

Lai Chun-ting and Hsieh Chieh-hua both stated that if technology is used as the basis, an immersive environment is very important, and noted that the laboratory of this collaboration is relatively open and diverse, with a willingness to work with artists to create "non-daily products." Despite not possessing industrial-grade "precision," they are in line with what the artists desire to express.

Liu Chien-wei, on the other hand, discovered the discrepancy between 3D printing and real objects, unexpectedly expanding the space for artists to maneuver.

In this project, "experiment" has become the focus, involving artists and engineers crossing paths, getting to know each other's professions, and jointly challenging the multitudinous possibilities of technology, art, and technological expansion.
