NTMoFA holds lecture on legacy of artist Chen Yin-huei, promoting the spirit of 'Reconstruction of Taiwan's Art History'

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) held the first special lecture on the artistic legacy of senior artist Chen Yin-huei (陳銀輝) on Aug. 28.

Chen's top pupil Su Hsien-fa (蘇憲法), who is currently the chairman of the Tainan Art Museum and chairman emeritus of National Taiwan Normal University's Department of Fine Arts, was invited to give a lecture on Chen’s life and creative style.

NTMoFA Director Liang Yung-fei pointed that NTMoFA echoes the spirit of the "Reconstruction of Taiwan's Art History (重建臺灣藝術史)" initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture.

Since Chen Yin-huei has used his life's work and passion to influence Taiwan and nourish Taiwan's art, NTMoFA is obliged to introduce senior artists from Taiwan to the public to help them become more aware of the museum's key objective, Liang added.

A total of 155 paintings by Chen Yin-huei are on display in the current exhibition, which spans more than 60 years from the late 1950s to the present.

After careful planning by two curators, Liao Jen-I (廖仁義) and Liu Pi-hsu (劉碧旭), it is hoped that Chen's unique artistic style and development will be thoroughly presented.

Chen has been passionate about creating art throughout his life and has never slackened in his endeavor, even now at the age of 90. Throughout the decades, he has continuously experimented with various painting methods and new forms of individual expression.

Chen taught in the Department of Fine Arts of Normal University for nearly 40 years. He later established a scholarship and moved to Taichung, further inspiring artists and contributing to art education in Central Taiwan. He has become an important model for many students, as well as masters and pupils in later generations, earning him the title of "Honorary Professor" at NTNU’s Fine Arts Department, and recognition in the art scene.
