Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te visited the Pu Tian-sheng Memorial Museum on Aug. 1, and proposed the plan to preserve the works of late Taiwanese sculptor Pu Tian-sheng (蒲添生), so as to complete the history of Taiwan's sculpture art as well as cultural history. There are also plans underway for the entire collection of sculptures to be donated to Taiwan.

Born in Chiayi in 1912, Pu Tian-sheng is adept at interpreting the beauty of the human body and life in a realistic style. His works are rich in social and humanistic care, and have a significant impact on the development of Taiwan's sculpture.

Established in 2010, the Pu Tian-sheng Memorial Museum has more than 200 pieces of works created by him. The museum has been promoting cultural activities in recent years, to inherit and carry forward the spirit of Pu.

Minister Lee recalled that Pu once said, "I have dedicated my entire life to sculpture, and sculpture has given me a life," Pu's children and descendants have inherited this spirit, and they are considered as the most important family devoted to sculpturing in Taiwan.

He added that Pu's family members have decided to donate the sculpture works to Taiwan. MOC will actively discuss on the plans to maintain, preserve and manage the works.

MOC highlighted the importance of Pu's exhibition - "Tracing the roots through sculpture: Pu Tian-Sheng 110th birthday memorial exhibition (塑×溯─蒲添生110雕塑紀念展)," which is currently on display at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei. The ministry also emphasized that, together with the future generations of artists, it will continue to preserve and promote Taiwan’s important art assets through the "Reconstruction of Taiwan’s Art History" initiative.
