Presidential citation sought for late artist Liang Dan-fong

Artist Liang Dan-fong (梁丹丰) has passed away on Sep. 6, at the age of 86. Well-known for her watercolor paintings and prose works, Liang taught at Ming Chuan University, Chinese Culture University and National Taiwan University of Arts. Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te expressed his condolences upon hearing the news and MOC will apply for a posthumous presidential citation in recognition of her dedication in nurturing countless talents throughout her life.

Born in Nanjing in 1935, her father Liang Ding-ming (梁鼎銘) was a master in modern and contemporary art. Liang inherited her father's artistic genes and developed her own painting style. Growing up, she had a rough childhood but this nourished her artistic talents, she had been keeping journals in the form of both sketches and writings based on her observations during her travels.

Liang won numerous awards for her art and literary works, including National Award for Arts, Literature and Arts Award by Ministry of Education, the Golden Goblet Award of the Chinese Ink Painting Institute, as well as Painting Award of the Chinese Writers and Artists Association.

Minister Lee added, Liang's unyielding spirit and the life stories told by her creations will be cherished forever by future generations.
