Contemporary artist Melek Kocasinan takes part in Artweeks@Akaretler in Istanbul

Taiwanese-Turkish contemporary artist Melek Kocasinan (高安琪) participated in the 5th edition of Artweeks@Akaretler in Istanbul, Turkey until Sep. 19, where she interacted with art enthusiasts through her colorful and unique works.

Melek Kocasinan attracts art enthusiasts with works that integrate fashion, Asian art, shamanism, pop art and psychoanalysis. With a Taiwanese mother and Turkish father, she had educational experiences in Taiwan, Turkey and the United States. Her works are not only multicultural, but deal with themes such as sense of belonging, consumption and fashion psychology while using digital and physical tools for painting, collage and other creative techniques.

She pointed out that the displayed "Creative Wings" reflects her Far Eastern roots as well as the shamanic education she once had. Another work titled "Dream Objects," which draws inspiration from the 13th century Sufi saint Mevlana Jalaluddin al-Rumi, allows the audience to see their own reflection in the glass mirror that symbolizes the focus on themselves by surpassing dreams.

For the past few months, Melek Kocasinan attended multiple exhibitions such as ARTCONTACT Istanbul, Bodrum Art and Antique Fair. After Artweeks@Akaretler, her works will be on view at the Istanbul Art and Antique Fair from Nov. 3 to 7.

Artweeks@Akaretler, a bi-annual art exhibition, hosts the most up-to-date works of contemporary artists from Turkey and the world. Bringing  together Turkey's leading galleries and collectors, the event serves as a new platform for art and cultural life.
